Black River's Special Education program is conducting a search for children who are suspected of having a disability.

If you have a child who you believe may have a handicapping condition, please contact the building principal or Angelique Kuba.

Children as young as three-years old are eligible for services if it is determined that they have a disability.

General Information

Our Program:

I~~~ is an integrated program providing a preschool experience for children with and without developmental delays.
~
I~~~ allows all children, typically developing and children with developmental delays, to gain knowledge while interacting with their peers.
~
I~~~ provides opportunities for parents to become active participants in their child’s education.
~
I~~~ collaborates with families, schools and the community to provide optimum delivery of services.
~
I~~~ utilizes learning centers (literacy, dramatic play, music, math, block building, creative arts, science, and fine and large motor activities).
~
I~~~ has a balance of active and quiet activities. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~
I~~~ incorporates child-initiated and teacher-directed activities.
~
I~~~ uses structured groups and free play activities.
~
I~~~ addresses all areas of the child’s development.
~
I~~~ provides preparation, readiness and transitioning for kindergarten.
~
I~~~ has a low teacher to student ratio with one teacher and one assistant per 12 students.
~
I~~~ is licensed and monitored by the Ohio Department of Education, Division of Early Childhood.
~
I~~~ has staff members that are trained in first aid, CPR and child abuse prevention.
~
I~~~ is free to children with documented special needs.
~
I~~~ is provided on a monthly tuition fee.

Referral Information

1.~~~~~~ Why should a child be referred to the Black River Preschool?
~
A child who is between the ages of three to five years and has difficulty in the following areas my be referred:
~
ÿ~~~~ Communication – does not seem to understand language, is difficult to understand, has a limited vocabulary, does not put words together in short phrases
~
ÿ~~~~ Preacademic – has significant difficulty with basic preschool readiness skills
~
ÿ~~~~ Fine Motor – has significant difficulty in copying simple strokes (O, -, +,1D2), stacking blocks, snipping with scissors, etc.

ÿ~~~~ Gross Motor – has significant difficulty with jumping and running
~
ÿ~~~~ Socialization and Self-Help Skills – has significant difficulty interacting appropriately with adults and peers
~
ÿ~~~~ Medical Diagnosis – diagnosis alone does not make a child eligible for services.~ Sometimes, however, a syndrome/disorder/disease significantly affects a child’s ability to learn in a classroom setting.

2.~~~~~~ Who can refer a child to the BR Preschool?
~
Anyone who knows the child can make a referral.~ However, the parent must be contacted and give permission for the preschool to conduct all screenings/evaluations.
~
3.~~~~~~ How is a referral made to BR Preschool?
~
Call the BR Elementary Office and ask to speak with Angelique Kuba 419-736-2161~ Be prepared to share the child’s date of birth, parents’ names/address/telephone number, reason for referral and any services the child currently receives.
